Under 18 side are Provincial Champs!

The Canucks' Under 18 team first took the Calgary city championship on Saturday July 31st by a score of 19 - 7 in a hard fought and spirited over the Calgay Irish. Canucks' trys were scored by Andrew Thom and by fullback Paul Spoering, who also added three field goals.

As Calgary champs, the lads traveled to Edmonton on Saturday August 7 to play the Druids Under 19 who had calimed the Edmonton city championship a week earlier.

Considered heavy underdogs going into the game primarily due to the age difference, and only having 1/2 hour to prepare for the match the team surpised the Druids early on and broke from the gate to move to the lead of 14 -0 at the half.

After the Druids gained their momentum, it was a hard hitting and very rough game, and despite the Druids racking up two tries in the 2nd half, the Canucks managed to hold their lead and were 14 - 12 winners at the final whistle.

Fullback Paul Spoering scored one try, slotted the conversion and added three field goals. Despite the singular scoring, the game was truly a complete team effort with some pounding hits and outstanding rucking. It was a very well deserved win!

Therefore, the 2004 Canucks complete the season UNDEFEATED, and can call themselves under 19 Provincial Junior Champions!

Congratulations to the team and the coaches on a successful season and for prevailing in an extremely hard fought final match!
