Canucks go undefeated in 2004 Tour of Eastern Europe
the following account is paraphrased from e-mail accounts submitted during the tour...
Tournament in Budapest...
We started off with 30 HUGELY HUNG players (and I am not talking the large penis variety) that could barely walk onto the field. As Tinkerbell Tidamarsh said, "the bottom of the ruck smelled like a stale beer."
However, the boys still held the day and showed some good skills against the Budapest Exiles to prevail in the end 3 tries to 1.
Next up were the 'Frenchies' which did not take much motivation because not only were they French but they wore green. The match proved a harder contest, but we prevailed and beat the shit out of them to win the tournament. Actually they were great guys and the goal was accomplished.
With the day won, there was only one thing left to do.. go drinking!
Canucks v. Hungary
The following day we were up against the Huge Hungarian National side and there were a few sore bodies and heads but the guys were a little more prepared and serious to play.
It was an outstanding exhibition between the two sides and the boys were very motivated. Jamie was in a zone and leading the rucks, Exley was a terror in the lineout, getting pounded on and still coming up with the ball.
Hot Rod was hitting everything that moved and Smokey was teaching the national loosey a lesson in why you don't piss off an experienced prop.
Pyttka was hitting all his holes hard and the backs were flying. Everyone was excited on the field and off. The hits were big and the pace was fast and furious. Brad Robertson was getting pounded on and had a great game delivering ball.
The Hungarians could not deal with the strategies we employed and, even though they never gave up and kept on coming, we slowly racked up the score to prevail at the end 31 to 7.
iRB #76...?
Since Hungary were ranked #77 in the world, The Canucks Rugby Club should now be ranked 76! Never were the Canucks prouder or more excited than in that game! To celebrate we went drinking...
On to Prague...
